Hopeful Parent’s & A Child’s Hope | Portrait with Santa | November 21st 2009

We were honored to return a second year running and photograph families with Santa and Ms Claus. Hopeful Parent’s and A Child’s Hope are wonderful organizations helping to connect couples with kids that need homes. Every year the organizations: Hopeful Parent’s and A Child’s Hope hold a Christmas party for all those parents that have adopted one or more children. After sitting down for dinner, they get to sit with Santa Claus and hear a story. The kids love it and I’m sure the parents too! :)

For the second year running, we have been invited to photograph all the families with Santa Claus, show the images on a large monitor and print them on request. This year was no exception, with a large studio space created in the corner of the dinning room. We set up a backdrop, lights, a camera tethered to a laptop and then networked that with another laptop. The second laptop was where the editing, viewing and printing was operated from. Shooting just over 260 images close to an hour, families we able to view their portraits as we took them. And then head over to my assistant to view them some more and then select the print collection. With all printing done on site, families were able to take care of this years family portrait with Santa in one evening.

We’re looking forward to helping the organizations next year.

Sheryl & Andy | Wedding

I had the pleasure to photograph Sheryl and Andy’s Wedding at the Immaculate Conception Church in Durham. A very contemporary, yet traditional looking church. This was quite the a lovely wedding, with detailed coverage of the ceremony, formals and the reception. In between the formals and reception, the couple, myself and my assistant Ted, went to a few locations near to Tosca where we did a series of creative portraits. I really love to do these, for many reasons. For one, it gives the couple a chance to breath and enjoy those initial moments of married life doing something that’s just about them. Secondly, these are going to be images that are for them and will emphasize their feelings between one another.

The sun came down pretty quickly during the creative portrait time, which was perfect, as I was able to make use of the overhead lighting found around the area close to Tosca. With the aid of a little off camera lighting, it is possible to pull in the ambient lighting too.

I’m always drawn to the editorial, fashion and romantic side that an image can reveal. Added to that, I like to challenge myself to include movement and texture. The funny thing is, I’m thinking about all these things during any shoot, which is no surprise when I see the concentrated look on my face when I see photo’s of me at work! It is an exhausting process to go through, but entirely worth it, as there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the images later and getting the chill down your spine.

Namaste Yoga & Awaken Yoga Websites | Yoga Photo Session

During the earlier part of this year, the studio was hired by Namaste Yoga to photograph all their yoga instructors within a very tight amount of time. The entire studio was used for the event, where we streamed images taken in the studio to a large screen in the lounge. Those waiting for their shoot to start, were able to eat snacks provided by Tina the owner of Namaste Yoga and view the images of the current photo shoot.

This was a very dynamic shoot, as each instructor had their vision and favorite poses. With that in mind, along with the needs of Namaste Yoga’s image use requirements. I set out to accomplish the capture of a wide variety of images for their needs.

At the end of the shoot, all images were edited and put into an online gallery. The instructors were asked to pick their favorite image and that was used in their profile section at Namaste Yoga’s website. Then Tina gave each instructor a 4×6 print as a thank you gift.

I was recently approached by Cristina at Awaken Yoga for use of a handful of the images I’d taken on her yoga website.

NC CEO Forum Campaign 2010 | cleandesign

I have been working with cleandesign over the last week or so to help with supplying all the images for a new brochure they are creating. Early this year I was the prime photographer and a sponsor of the NC CEO Forum 2009, held at the Preston Country Club here in my home town of Cary, NC. The design company, cleandesign was commissioned to create the brochure for next years NC CEO Forum and they then needed photography for this new brochure.

The images above shows a collection of the headers of each page in the brochure, which is where each of the images was used.

They have done a great job, as always, designing this brochure. It is interesting to see too how the images were used.

Welcome to Dolce the Cat | The Studio

Anybody for some fruit? LOL. Unexpectedly and with no prompting, Dolce, one of our cats decided to jump into the empty fruit bowl and make herself comfortable. Just simply adorable!

Dolce is one of two cats (of Dolce & Gabbana) that we rescued from the Raleigh Animal Shelter. She is a little over one year old and Gabbana is around 3 years of age. They didn’t know each other, but have since become the best of friends… most of the time!

It’s funny, we visited the animal shelter 3 times, looking to adopt one cat and ended up with two. But I seriously wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. It feels good to have rescued them from a future that could have been quite bad and give them a good home. After bringing them home, Dolce sprung to life and was running around everywhere. Gabbana took a little longer before he came out of his confused state and is now running all over the place too.

I’m sure if you visit the studio, they will make sure they come and greet you.
