I first introduced to Allyson & Archie by Shawn owner and lead consultant at Your Special Day Weddings and Special Events. Allyson, Shawn, Archie (via iChat from England) and myself had a detailed and fun consultation. Which is the best time to initially understand the couples wedding goals and dreams. Allyson, Archie & myself met in downtown Wilmington January 1st 2010, the first shoot of the new year! With their move to England in a matter of days after the shoot, it was important that we meet and capture some memories in one of North Carolina’s well known coastal cities. The weather at the coast is never guaranteed, especially in the winter. This day was an exception it turned out. With any shoot, I’m constantly checking the weather reports to see what the day may bring. The afternoon’s weather went as predicted, with the rain starting at exactly 3 PM. I remember, as I was so surprised by the exactness.

We started the shoot of at the Cotton Exchange in downtown Wilmington, moving around the building to get interesting portraits of the location and their total adoration for each other. Walking a little of the way down the street to a city building.

Then off to a few locations near George’s and the walkway on the inlet. There’s some really cool distressed painted brick walls. Which as you can imagine I’m totally in to!

After covering some cool parts of downtown Wilmington, we headed over to Wrightsville beach and the huge concrete pier. The cold icy wind didn’t slow us down… much… we quickly captured some portraits on the pier and then headed down to the beach. Underneath the pier and running along the sand.

My goal for the session was to connect with the couple and for them to have a fun time. I wanted to capture a wide range of images, keeping it romantic, creative and simple.
